1975 Whaler Revenge

The boat I found that met my budget was sitting on a trailer in a side yard somewhat neglected, full of leaves, a couple small trees, and assorted collection of things tossed in to get them out of the yard. It set propped up on a couple of 2x4 on a trailer with a broken shackle and two flat tires. It was great. Pumped some air in the tires, hooked it up to the truck, and towed it the 12 miles to her new home.   Needless to say my wife was overjoyed at the new project sitting in the driveway.

Interior view,  Note the swiss cheese dash.  One windshield glass was missing, frame was bent and hinge on opening window frozen shut.

View aft with cover removed from fuel tank area.   More swiss cheese in this area as well.

Back to basics.  Windshield removed, it literally fell apart as I was taking it off. All the railings and other hardware was removed as well.  The reason I liked this hull was because it already had a cuddy like structure in the bow.  Which for some reason had two 8 inch holes cut into the deck.

The bits and pieces removed from the boat.  Some wood trim, some deck covers.  About 80% of the original wood was intact.  Some were split and may be repairable and others can be replicated.

This is the hatch that was over the fuel tank.  This a fairly thick layup of fiberglass on the top, with a 1/2 inch plywood core, with a couple more layers of glass on the back side.  Measures about 2x5 feet. Unfortunately there was another 8 inch hole drilled through this as well and the plywood was rotted. Click here for a brief overview of repair.
